We were lucky enough to spend the weekend in and around Nice on the Côte d'Azur. So lovely to be back there. I love the rococo architecture and the way they can paint the town orange and yellow without looking ridiculous.

In the nearby villages perched on hill tops, time seems to have stood still. The several hundred year old houses aren't empty, but remain totally unchanged, simply inhabited by yet another new generation.
Rich travellers on their Grand Tour in the nineteenth century wouldn't have used the same forms of transport, or had the crowds but they would certainly have admired many of the same views.

Just beautiful Sharon!
ReplyDeleteJust loving that last photo ;)

Wow! I love the top photo ~ such beautiful architecture with rich colourings. I know what you mean about the colour orange it just seems to look right in that setting ~perhaps it's the lovely twinkly blue of the Mediterranian Sea that mellows it. Lovely post that brings back many happy memories.

The views and the architecture have probably changed very little, thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteLucky, lucky you Sharon and I wish I were there but I'm sure you don't...lol. How beautiful the architecture is, simply stunning!
ReplyDeleteDo you have word verification? I think I just ignored my remark and didn't verify.
ReplyDeleteHere goes again. I do that all the time, don't wait for the verification. Anyway, why do we have such a fascination with doors. Because, they are a welcome to ones home, they hold secrets behind the, they let us know we are a friend and to come inside. Doors, I heart them.
ReplyDeleteLove those beautiful images .. and doors are so welcoming. Too bad the new generation owners of these homes don't sell them... seems such a waste.
ReplyDeleteThat last image with the door slightly open .. is beckoning come inside!!! HHL
Hi Sharon....can I purchase a print of that last picture from you?? in a 5x7 ?? I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe first time I came to Nice, we were in a campground in a tent (early 80's). When we woke up the next morning, we were totally surrounded by a gypsy circus that had arrived in the night.
ReplyDeleteI think a lovely hotel would have been much better, Sharon. But it did make for a funny memory.
Your photos are stunning.
Fondly,
Glenda
Bonjour Sharon.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place to visit! I wish I were there to take some photos(smile) I love old doors.

I know what you mean about painting the town yellow and orange and not looking ridiculous. Here in Montpellier we must have a native Niçois who has painted his house ochre with terracotta trimmings and it looks exactly that - out of place and ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteWonderful images I too especially love the last one of the door.. it looks so inviting xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo's Sharon...

Gosh - the harbour pictures look like a painting! What beautiful colours on the houses - wonderful photographs Sharon. xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos.
ReplyDeleteI've been asked to pass the One Lovely Blog to three other bloggers today, and one of them is you. You can pass it on if you like. :)
This is so beautiful! I have relatives in France that often ask us to stay, but the timing is the issue. Absolutely lovely though - you really make me want to go!
ReplyDeleteI love Nice and the surrounding area with all my heart. It feels more like home to me than where I have lived most of my life in the land I was born in, Canada.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the photos!
